Jesus brings relief

Scripture Reading

Matthew 11:25-30

At that time Jesus answered and said, "I praise Thee Father, O LORD of heaven, and earth, that Thou did hide these things from the wise and intelligent and did reveal them to babes.

"Yes, Father for thus is was well-pleasing in Thy sight.

"All things have been handled over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son, except the Father; not does anyone know the Father, except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.

"Come on to Me, all who are weary and heavy, laden, and I will give you rest.

"Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and YOU SHALL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS.

"For My yoke is easy, and My load is light."

What's the Big Idea??

"Come to me, all of you who are tired and have heavy burdens. I will give you rest." Matt. 11:28

Think of it this way:

How many of you have ever had an upset stomach? It's not much fun, is it? What do you think would happen if your mother or father were to give you an Alka-Seltzer tablet and you put it in your pocket? It wouldn't do you any good, would it? What should you do with it? You are supposed to drop it into a glass of water. And then when it has dissolved, you drink it. That is the only way it will give you any kind of relief from an upset stomach.

There are a lot of other things in this life that will bother us besides upset stomachs. We will face all sorts of problems and difficulties at home, in school, and in other places we may go. Jesus has promised His followers that He will give them relief when they face hard times. He has not promised that they will be spared from having to go through difficult times, though.

But just as the Alka-Seltzer can not do any good if we don't dissolve it in water and drink it, so Jesus will not be able to do any good in us unless we allow Him to have full control of our lives. And we can not do that unless we learn about Him. That is one reason going to Prep school and church and studying our Bibles are so important. If we will follow Him, Jesus will bring us relief in times of trouble and help us bear up under any problem we may experience.
