House built on rock

Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine, and acts upon them, maybe compared to a wise man, who built his house upon the rock. Matthew 7:24

                              This is a story that Jesus told. Two men built new houses. One was a very wise man. His house was strong and safe because he built it on rock.

     The other man built a house, too. But was foolish and built it on a sandy place.

     Now a terrible storm came. Hard rains poured down on the two new houses. Winds blew and broke the tree tops. The house that was built on rock stood through the whole storm. The rain and wind and flood couldn't hurt it.

     But the foolish man who built his house on sand was not happy. The rain and wind and flood came and the water washed away the sand, and his house crashed down!

     Jesus said, "The people who hear my words and do what I say are like the man who built his house on the rock. No matter what happens, their faith makes them strong."

     Then he said sadly, "But there are the other people who hear my words and pay no attention. They do what ever they want. When things get hard for them, they are not strong, because they don't have a strong faith."

     People were surprised at this story. "This man knows what he is talking about," they said.
