New Testament Stories Invited to a Feast
And it came about when he came into the house of one of the leaders of the Pharisees on the Sabbath to eat bread, that they were watching him closely. Luke 14:1 Jesus was invited to a dinner party. The people who were at the party were Pharisees and lawyers. They thought that they kept the law of Israel better than anyone else. Jesus told them these things: "When you are invited to a dinner party, don't shove into the front seats where important people sit. You will fell terrible if the hosts comes and says, "You'll have to move to make room for someone important!" "Instead sit in the worse seats of all. Then the host will say, "My friend come up to a better place!" In the kingdom of God people who make themselves important will be made humble. People who are humble will be made important. "When you give a party, don't just invite rich friends or relatives or rich people. Those people will invite you to their house to pay you back. Instead, invited some people who are poor or blind or ugly or lame. They can't pay you back, but on the day of the resurrection, God will pay you back for being generous to them."
