New Testament Stories Jesus Goes to the Father
The first account I composed, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach. Acts 1:1 After Jesus rose from the dead, He came to be with the disciples many times. Almost forty days after the first Resurrection Sunday, Jesus and His friends came together on the Mount of Olives, near Jerusalem. He talked to them about the Kingdom of God. "Do not leave Jerusalem after I am gone," He told the disciples. "Stay here until you receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. When John baptized you, it was with water. But before many days are past, you will be baptized again. You will be baptized with the Holy Spirit." "Will that be the time when you bring back the Kingdom of Israel?" they asked. "Nobody, except God knows this." He told them. "God decides when to do things. But I do know that the Holy Spirit will come to you soon. Then you will have the power to tell the good news of My Kingdom to all the countries of the world." Jesus had stopped talking. But His friends were still looking at Him. They watched as He was lifted up and disappeared in a cloud. While they were still staring at the sky, two men in shining white robes stood by them. "You from Galilee," they said. "Why are you staring up at the skies?" This Jesus that was taken up into heaven, will return in the same way that you saw Him go!" |
