New Testament Stories

Jesus in the Temple

And the Passover of the Jews was at hand,  and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. John 2:13

Jesus traveled to the temple in Jerusalem for the feast of Passover. Inside the temple He found people selling sheep, cattle and pigeons for sacrifices. He also saw moneychangers working.

He took some ropes and knotted it to make a whip. Then He took it and drove all the moneychangers and sheep and cattle out.

He turned over the moneychangers' tables and spilled coins everywhere. Jesus told the people who sold pigeons for sacrifice, "Take all these things out of here!" You aren't going to make God's house a place for business!"

The people said, " Jesus can you show us you have a right to do this?"

Jesus answered, "Tear this temple down, and I will build it up again in three days."

"What, it took forty-six years to build it. How could you build it in three days?"

Now when Jesus said temple, He meant His own body. After He rose from the dead, His disciples remembered what He had said.
