New Testament Stories Jesus Is Tested
He answered and said to him, "It is written , you shall worship the Lord your God and serve Him only. Luke 4:8 When Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River, He was filled with the Holy Spirit. Then the Spirit led him into the wild desert country, or wilderness. There He was tempted by the devil for forty days. Jesus ate nothing during that time, and He was hungry. The devil said, "If you are the Son of God, turn these stones into bread." Jesus answered the devil by saying, " Scripture says that people should not live by bread alone." Then the devil took him up high, where they could look down on all the great kingdoms of the world. "All this is mine," said the devil. "I will give you all these kingdoms if you worship me." But Jesus said, "Scripture says, worship only God, and serve nobody but God." So the devil took Jesus to Jerusalem and set him on the highest temple tower of the temple. "If you are really God, throw yourself off this tower," he told Jesus. "Scripture says God will send angels to guard you." Jesus said, "Scripture also tells us that we are not to tempt the Lord your God!" After he had tempted Jesus in everyway, the devil left. Then Jesus filled with the power of the Spirit, and returned to Galilee. People began to tell each other about Him, and they went to places where He was taught.
