Jesus Washes the Disciples Feet

Now before the feast of Passover, Jesus knowing that His hour had come and that He should depart out of this world to the Father, having loved His own that were in the world, He loved them to the end.   John 13:1

When Jesus and His disciples came to the Passover supper, the devil was already in the heart of Judas Iscariot. Judas had decided to hand Jesus over to the temple police and Roman soldiers. Jesus knew this. He also knew that soon He would return to God.

Jesus got up from the supper table and took off His outer robe. He tied a towel around His waist. He went around the table with a pan of water, washing the disciples' feet.

When He came to Peter, Peter jumped up and said, "No Lord! I can't let you wash my feet."

"If I don't then you can't be a part of Me," Jesus said.

"Oh," cried Peter. "Then wash my hands and my head too, so I can be a part of you!"

"You don't need a bath, "said Jesus. "All of you here are clean, except one." He said this because He knew Judas would betray him.

When Jesus finished, He put His robe back on and sat down. He said, "You call Me Teacher and Lord, and that is good, because I am those things. Now if your Lord and Teacher washes your feet, you should do the same for others. I have given an example to copy. Treat each other the way I have treated you, and do for each other what I have done for you."
