New Testament Stories A King Is Born
For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:11 When Cesar Augustus was emperor of Rome, he sent an order to all the empire that everyone should report for a census. In Judah, where Herod was king, each man went to the city where he was born and reported for his family. A man from Nazareth, whose name was Joseph, went to report to Bethlehem because he was from the family of David. With him was Mary, his wife, who was expecting her baby very soon. While they were still in Bethlehem, the time came for Mary's baby to be born.
There was no room for them so stay at the inn, so she had her baby in the stable where the animals were kept. She wrapped him in cloths and laid him in a manger, a box full of soft hay.
She named the baby Jesus! Nearby, there were shepherds outside who stayed over night in the fields to protect their sheep. They were sitting outside under the stars, when suddenly and angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord was all around them.
"Don't be afraid!" called the angel. "I bring you wonderful news of great joy. A savior, who is Christ the Lord, has been born to you today in David's city of Bethlehem. Here is how you will know him. You will find a baby, wrapped in swaddling cloths and sleeping in a manger." Suddenly the sky whole sky was filled with angels, praising God and saying, "Glory to God in the highest, and peace to God's people on earth!" When the angels had gone, the shepherds said to each other, "Let's go to Bethlehem and see this wonderful thing that God has told us!" And they rushed to Bethlehem and found Mary and Joseph and the baby Jesus, who was sleeping in a manger. When the shepherds saw the baby Jesus, they told Mary and Joseph what the angels had said.
