Picking Grain on the Sabbath

And The  Pharisees were saying, "See here, why are you doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?"  Mark 2:24

Jesus and His disciples traveled around the country near the Sea of Galilee, teaching about God and healing sick people. One Sabbath day, (when the Jewish people rest and worship God), Jesus and His friends were walking through a field. On the way His friends picked some grain to eat.

"What," said some Pharisees, who thought they were better than most people. "Your friends are picking grains on the Sabbath. That is against our Jewish law. No work should be done on the Sabbath day."

Jesus replied, " Didn't you ever in the Scripture that once King David and his army once ate the holy bread in the Tabernacle?" It was all right because they were so hungry, even though no one was suppose to eat that bread except priests. God made the Sabbath for people. God didn't make people for the Sabbath! The Son of man is Lord even over the Sabbath!"
