The Lord's Prayer

And it came about that while He was praying in a certain place, after He had finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray as John has also taught his disciples." Luke 11:1

The disciples saw Jesus praying. When He was finished, one of them asked, "Lord, teach us to pray."

Jesus said, "You don't need many words to pray. Your Father in heaven knows your needs."

This is the prayer that Jesus taught His friends:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever, amen.

When Jesus taught His friends to say this prayer, He reminded them to forgive others. "Forgive people for what they do to you," he said. Then your Father in heaven can forgive your sins, too. If you don't forgive, God can't forgive you either."
