The Twelve Disciples

And having summoned His twelve disciples, He gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out and heal every kind of disease and every kind of sickness.  Matthew 10:1

Jesus was going from town to town, teaching about God, telling the good news, and healing people. When he saw such huge crowds, he felt sorry for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd to take care of them.

He told his disciples, "The harvest is ready, but there are not enough people to cut the grain. Pray that God will send workers!"

So he called his twelve disciples and gave them power over evil spirits and sickness.

The names of these twelve were Simon Peter and his brothers Andrew, James and John, the sons of Zebedee; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alpheus, and Thaddeus; Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, the one who betrayed Jesus.

Jesus sent them out to the towns in Galilee and Judea and he said, "Tell the good news to the lost people  of Israel. When you go say, "The kingdom of heaven is here! Heal the sick, raise the dead and cast out evil spirits. Don't take money for what you do, because God give you these gifts without making you pay for them.
