Wedding at cana

His mother said to the servants, "What ever He says to do, do it." John 2:5

One day Jesus went to a wedding in Cana, a small town near the Sea of Galilee. His mother Mary and some of His new friends and disciples went with Him.

In those days a wedding party lasted for several days. Everyone came to celebrate, and the groom had to buy plenty of food and wine.

There was not enough wine at this wedding, and Mary felt sorry for the bride and groom.

She whispered to Jesus, "They are running out of wine, please do something."

Jesus went over to the servants and said, "Fill these jars with water." These were big twenty-gallon jars filled with water for the Jewish rites of cleansing.

The servants filled the jars to the rim. Then Jesus told them, "Now take a cup full to the steward who is in charge of this feast."

The steward tasted what they had brought him. Then he turned to the bride and groom.

"Most people serve their best wine first and give the cheap wine later. But you have saved the very best for last."

This was the very first miracle that Jesus did. His disciples believed in Him. After the wedding Jesus and His disciples went to Capernaum, a town on the lake, and stayed there for a few days with His mother and His brothers.
